Welcome to the new Friends-of-FPC!

Here you will find all kinds of information about the FreePascal Compiler (FPC). We have many tutorials and howtos as well as a selection of tools to help you with your programming. We also have some example codes for you. And if you want to contribute some information and/or source or tools you can do so.
May-2009: We are pleased to announce FoFPC is under new management, actively using FPC to develop for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Testing, testing... _feedback screeching across the pa speakers_ is this thing on?? _you hear the roar of the audience_ ... yes, FoFPC is back, and ready to help developers grasp their potential with the FreePascal Compiler (FPC). Over the next few months FoFPC will come to life under the management of 3F, LLC. With over 30 years experience writing commercial applications using Turbo Pascal, Borland Pascal, Turbo Pascal for Windows, Virtual Pascal (OS/2), Delphi, Kylix and eventually falling in with FreePascal around 2002. We have knowledge of Sockets, Secure Communications, Windows API (Inside/Out!), Linux (Writing our own FPC Kernel with X11 support!), GTK2 for Windows and Linux, and Carbon for Mac OS.

Not much to say, really. I cleaned up the tools section: updated some links and added some more IDEs and misc tools.

Somebody sent me a conversion of the OpenGL 1.5 headers (Whoever you are: give me a call and I'll give you credit ;). Unfortunately they only worked in FPC 1.93 (aka FPC 2.00 beta). As I stay away from the 2.00 betas for serious coding I made them compatible with FPC 1.0.x. Both versions can be found in the "Source Codes" section. I put them under "Other targets" since they should work with Windows and Linux (with a little bit of work).

Hot damn! Where, oh where has the update gone?

I kept a somewhat fragile balance of my work, university and private projects (such as FoFPC). This balance was totaly thrown off when I accidently poured a glass of Tonic Water on my laptop. Luckily the repairs took only a couple of days and everything was still there (although I'm not the type that gives plugs, I just want to say that Acer has really great support. Period!).

So I got my laptop back, but I was so far behind my schedules of work and university I had to catch up first. Now with all that done I finally have some time for FoFPC again. And here you are - with over a month of delay - the new update.

First the obvious: there is a new banner link to the right to a great FPC site. It's in russian, but even if you can't read the language take a look anyway because the sources are very interesting. The other link goes to a new and interesting IDE for FPC. It focusses on complete graphical Pascal programming. Very interesting. I also changed the style sheets to work better with Linux as some people stated that I used Windows fonts for large parts of the site. Sorry for that, should work now.

I also uploaded 3 new chapters of the "OpenGL/ FPC" tutorial. Two feature texture mapping and the third is written by Mr. WereWolf about GL Extensions. Thank you Mr. W. for that!

I still have some new chapters to the Win32/ FPC tutorial in the pipeline as well. They will be added as soon as I cleaned up the example codes. I'm still somewhat toying with the idea to write a socket tutorial as many people have trouble with them. But maybe they will just be included into the Win32 tutorial in the (distant) future. We'll see.

As promised, the new Win32/ FPC tutorial is up. Only the english version has been updated. It contains completely new chapters and topics as well as new source codes. Have fun learning.

I made a mistake and didn't check out the link graphics. I saw them on my computer but they weren't uploaded and the links still pointed to my hard drive. Man, I got to learn how to use my own tools some time ;) Anyway - as you can see they are up now.

I also put up the new version of the OpenGL/ FPC tutorial. I fixed some mistakes and rewrote the examples from scratch with new initialisation. It should be much clearer now what is going on. And much safer as everything is now put in functions that return error values.

Contribute form should work now. Feel free to contribute your stuff!

Friends-of-FPC.org is back! I know, it seemed like the site was dead, and maybe it was for some time. But now it is back with some new content - and a new concept. I still don't have the time and energy to do regular updates and write stuff, so I thought you might contribute. I added a forum and a contribute section where you can upload your own tutorials, sources, tools, tipps and tricks. Let's see if some people will help to keep this site active and kicking. Speaking of contributing: how about YOU?

Contrary to my previous post on the old FoFPC site, I didn't stop to use FPC. I still use it for my own stuff and keep on developing my tools and applications in it. But I do choose a bit more carefully and use FPC in combination with other Compilers like Delphi and VC++. Maybe I'll write a bit about it, but - you know - time is the key.

So have fun once again. I hope you learn something. Use the forum, make yourself at home! And let's see how this turns out.
